Overview

The Gomukh – Tapovan Trek is a classic high-altitude Himalayan trek in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Beginning from Gangotri, the trail leads to the snout of the Gangotri Glacier (Gomukh) — the sacred source of the River Ganga — and onward to the panoramic alpine meadows of Tapovan (4,463 m) at the base of Mt. Shivling. This trek blends spiritual significance, challenging terrain, and some of the most dramatic Himalayan scenery in India.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Delhi - Dehradun (255 kms drive. approx 540 hrs drive)

In Morning our car will arrive at your residence at 06:00 AM. Later, leave for Dehradun. On Arrival Check in to the hotel of your choice, rest of the day at leisure.

Overnight in Dehradun.

Day 02: Dehradun – Uttarkashi (144 kms. Drive 6–7 hrs).

Morning Leave for Uttrakashi. On arrival check in to the hotel of your choice and overnight at hotel/guesthouse in Uttarkashi.

Day 3: Uttarkashi – Gangotri (120 kms. Drive ~5 hrs).

Morning leave for Gangotri. On arrival check in to the hotel of your choice, after some rest, visit Gangotri temple.

Overnight in Gangotri.

Day 04: Gangotri – Chirbasa (9 km trek / ~5 hrs).

Morning leave for the trek along Bhagirathi river through pine & deodar forests to Chirbasa campsite.

Overnight in Chirbasa Campsite.

Day 05: Chirbasa – Bhojbasa (5 km / ~3 hrs).

Morning have breakfast and leave for the trek across moraine & glacial terrain to Bhojbasa; evening views of Mt. Shivling.

Overnight in Bhojbasa.

Day 06: Bhojbasa – Gomukh – Tapovan (10 km / 7–8 hrs).

In the Morning have breakfast and leave for the Trek to Gomukh glacier (which is the origin of the river Ganga which is a unique spiritual and natural landmark.) snout and ascend to Tapovan (high-altitude alpine meadows at the base of Mt. Shivling offering panoramic views.). Camp at Tapovan and enjoy proximity to Shivling.

Overnight in Tapovan.

Day 07: Tapovan exploration and descent to Bhojbasa (7–8 hrs).

Explore meadows, meditation spots and high-altitude views at Spectacular Himalayan panorama: Mt. Shivling, Meru, Bhagirathi peaks and surrounding glaciers. Later, descend back to Bhojbasa.

Day 08: : Bhojbasa – Gangotri – Dehradun (Trek + Drive).
